Young Manga Artists from the Evelyn Grace Academy

As part of the Genki Giving area at HYPER JAPAN 2011, a group of emerging manga artists led illustration workshops over all three days, giving advice and feedback to beginners and budding manga artists of all ages. The artists also organised a competition as part of the workshop, and over 150 people submitted entries over the three days of the event. Although it was extremely tough to choose from among the many unique and impressive entries received, the artists had to choose three winners for each category, shown below. Entries were judged on artistic skill (design, composition, use of colour), impact, and interpretation of the category task.

Best Character Designer

Task: to design an original character complete with costume.

Best Concept Manga

Task: free drawing on any of the following themes: Genki Giving, Kawaii, Japan.
Prize: JP-BOOKS £20 Gift Voucher

Best Future Talent

Task: free drawing by under 16s.
Prize: Toei & Kaze character goods
